Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu will address the 78th Session of the high-level General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday, September 19.
President Tinubu would be the fifth African leader to speak on day one of the gathering, according to the speakers list from the Office of the General Assembly President.
According to the list, Mr Tinubu will be the 14th speaker out of 20 leaders slated to speak on the first day.
South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, the 10th speaker, will be the first African leader to speak in the morning session of the Assembly.
In the Afternoon session, five African leaders are expected to address the gathering.
Algeria’s President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, will become the inaugural African leader to address the afternoon session, followed by Moroccan leader Aziz Akhannouch and Mozambique’s President, Filipe Nyusi.
Macky Sall, the President of Senegal, will be the fifth African speaker to engage the assembly, concluding the opening day’s leadership discourse.
Luiz da Sliva, the President of Brazil, will lead the world leaders in presenting his address to the 78th session, followed by U.S. President Joe Biden, the customary second speaker as the host nation.
The UN General Assembly’s 78th session (UNGA 78) will commence on Tuesday, September 5, with the induction of the new President, Dennis Francis of Trinidad and Tobago, who will preside over the proceedings for the next 12 months.
Scheduled from September 19 to September 29, the high-level General Debate will revolve around the theme of rebuilding trust and rekindling global solidarity, expediting action on the 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development goals, aiming for peace, prosperity, progress, and universal sustainability.
