It’s fake – Elumelu debunks report of being penned down as CBN Governor

The Chairman of United Bank for Africa Group, Tony Elumelu has debunked reports making the rounds that he is being considered for the position of Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor.

Recall that Imran Muhammed, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member had claimed that the bank chief, Elumelu is being considered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be CBN governor.

However, reacting to Muhammed’s claim, Elumelu, through his official X, formerly Twitter handle said the claim is fake news.

“LOL. No, please. This is false news!”, he wrote.

Media Talk Africa recalls that following the suspension of Godwin Emefiele as CBN governor in June Folashodun Shonubi took over in acting capacity.

In July 30, the apex bank had been under probe by a special investigator, Jim Obazee, an appointee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
