Oil bunkering destroying our environment – Delta community cries out

Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State says its fishermen can no longer fish along the Warri River owing to oil bunkering in neighbouring communities.

Comrade Oro Ivwrigheghweta spoke on behalf of the Agrarian community.

He stressed that the activities of oil bunkerers had led to the death of fishes in the river and that this had negative effects on fishermen.

According to him, “This is because their activities have impacted negatively on the environment.

“The fishermen are lamenting that there are no more fishes in the river like before.”

Ivwrigheghweta urged the government to be proactive in fighting crime, especially crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

He also said security agencies should stop taking bribe from those doing the illicit business.
