Insecurity: Zamfara govt closes cattle markets

The Zamfara State Government has announced the immediate closure of some cattle markets in five local government areas of the State.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Commissioner of Information, Mu’azu Mannir Hiadara.

The affected cattle markets are, Danjibga and Kunchin Kalgo in Tsafe Local Government Area, Bagega and Wuya cattle markets in Anka, Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru, Dauran in Zurmi and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim Local Government Area.

The decision to temporarily close the markets was taken during the State Security Council Meeting held at Council Chamber Gusau, the State capital, considering the nefarious activities of selling and loading rustled cattle by armed bandits.

“With this development, the council members, however, call on security agencies and the Directorate of Animal Health and Livestock Development to ensure strict compliance with the measures,” the statement read.

It further assured the general public and the relevant stakeholders of monitoring and reviewing the progress to restore peace in the affected markets.
