Poverty eradication will reduce insecurity by 50% – Edu

Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, said poverty eradication will reduce Nigeria’s insecurity level by 50 per cent.

She disclosed this in Abuja during a courtesy visit to Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, soliciting the support of the Nigerian Air Force in delivering relief materials to hard-to-reach areas in Nigeria.

She noted that poverty is a significant enabler of insecurity nationwide.

Edu said lifting several displaced persons from poverty will go a long way in reducing the menace of insecurity.

“When we win the war against poverty, we would have won the war against insecurity by over 50 per cent. Please, fly us to those hard-to-reach areas,” she said.

On his part, Abubakar assured the minister of his support.

“Your presence here underscores our shared commitment to the well-being of our fellow citizens during their most trying times,” he said.
