Man Utd confirm Antony will not return to club over allegations of assault

Manchester United have announced Antony will not return to the club after the international break amid allegations of assault.

Antony’s ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, has claimed the footballer assaulted her on four occasions.

Two more women in Brazil, Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana, also accused the 23-year-old of physical abuse.

Antony was dropped by Brazil for their World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, and United have also towed the same line.

“Man Utd acknowledges the allegations made against Antony. He will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.

“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse”.

In his own statement, Antony said: “I have agreed with United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me.

“This was a mutual decision.

“I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, I will fully cooperate with the police”.
