Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi has expressed concern over the road failures from the country’s capital Abuja to Okene in Kogi state, North-central Nigeria.

Mr. Umahi expressed his concern during an inspection tour of some federal roads in the North-central and South-south geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

The Minister, while highlighting some contractors whose works have failed along the Abuja-Okene road stressed the need for the use of concrete to build roads in order to have durable roads.

“The first session was completed by Dantata but we can see that a lot of the pavement, a lot of the sessions have failed. They have agreed to come back but the shoulders are completely gone.”

“I strongly believe that something must be done to change from the present situation of the method of constricting our roads. We will fight to ensure that our roads are constricted on concrete,” Umahi said.

The Minister added that he would be recommending to the President to take a wholistic look at the road jobs done from Abuja down to Okene.

He also directed that every road should have a reputable consultant supervising the jobs instead of a controller.
