Katsina govt sacks District Head over HIV-positive marriage approval

The Katsina State Government, upon the recommendation of the Katsina Emirate Council, has approved, with immediate effect, the retirement of Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi Ahmadu, the Sarkin Kurayen Katsina and District Head of Kuraye, over the alleged misconduct and violation of legal procedures in the approval of marriages.

The decision was conveyed in a press release from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the State; duly signed by its Director of Press, Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’Daua.

As contained in the press release, the decision follows an investigation into a petition received by the government, which alleged that the District Head had approved a marriage contract without the required medical certificates, as mandated by the law. More notably, it was discovered that one of the parties involved in the marriage is HIV positive.

The announcement underscores the state government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, ensuring the well-being of its citizens and highlights the importance of adhering to established protocols and legal requirements in marriage contracts, particularly in matters involving public officials.

“The Katsina State Government has approved the recommendation of Katsina Emirate Council for the retirement of the Sarkin Kurayen Katsina, District Head of Kuraye, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi Ahmadu, with immediate effect.

“This is sequel to a petition received by Government and subsequent investigation by the Katsina Emirate Council in which the District Head was found to have presided over a marriage contract without required medical certificates as provided by law and moreso one of the parties is HIV positive,” the statement read.
