Experts call for increase in female participation in tech innovations

Ibom Innovation Network, a consortium of technology experts in Akwa Ibom State has decried the low participation of women in technological advancement in the state and called for more female participation to bridge the gender gap in the industry.

The concerns were raised by the group during a press conference in Uyo to mark its 2nd technology week.

Idongesit Essien, the Public Relations Personnel of the group, said society and women appear not aware of the reality and opportunities in tech, stressing there should be more awareness for women to understand that launching a career in tech is ideal.

He said, “Though it is a male-dominated profession, there should be a consciousness for the women to embrace tech and know that it brings many opportunities.”

“We are looking at young people aged 16 and above. We are targeting secondary school students, students in tertiary institutions, venture capitalists, persons in the finance sector, and persons in government, especially regulators in science and tech in Nigeria,.

“We want people to be able to identify problems and use technology to solve them, be it hardware, software or a combination of both. It is a networking event that would inspire people.”
