Strike: VP Shettima Meets Labour Ministers

By Timothy Choji, Abuja

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima is in a meeting with Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong.

The Minister of State-Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha is also attending the meeting.

It is expected that the meeting is aimed at averting the strike action by labour unions in Nigeria, who want the government to address the difficulties citizens are passing through as result of the removal of subsidy on premium motor spirit.

Government on its part has promised to give palliatives that will cushion the effect of the removal of subsidy but organised labour is calling on the government to fast track the process.

The Ministers had earlier in the week met with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, all in a bid to avert the impending strike.

It is expected that the Ministers of labour will address anxious State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting with the Vice President.
