The Secretary-General of the Chidi Ibeh-led faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has strongly condemned the heinous murder and beheading of Mr Zachary Nmaduka, a prominent chieftain of the Labour Party from Umunneochi Local Government Area in Abia State, Nigeria. The gruesome act was perpetrated by unknown assassins, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Aba, Isiguzoro, a former youth leader of Ohanaeze, called on the southeastern governors and security agencies to intensify their efforts in intelligence gathering and surveillance as part of their commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of the region’s residents.
“We implore all critical stakeholders, regardless of their affiliations, to come together and bring forth their extensive wealth of experience and expertise in addressing the prevailing insecurity that is hindering our progress towards achieving economic greatness and infrastructural development in every part of Nigerian society,” Isiguzoro asserted.
Furthermore, he emphasized the urgent need for the establishment of a more robust and efficient security system to effectively address the escalating security challenges. Isiguzoro urged the government to allocate adequate resources for the funding and expansion of the Rapid Response Units of all security agencies, enabling them to promptly respond and apprehend criminals in Abia and its environs.
“It is important to recognize that no society can thrive amidst a climate of insecurity. Therefore, it is incumbent upon all relevant stakeholders to collaborate and implement comprehensive security measures that are suitable for the modern era,” Isiguzoro stated.
Isiguzoro extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, friends, and the leadership of the Labour Party in Abia State, recognizing the devastating impact this tragic incident has had on their lives. He also commended Governor Alex Otti for launching the Abia security taskforce, codenamed ‘Operation Crush Initiative,’ urging them to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
Furthermore, Isiguzoro called on the residents of Abia State to continue supporting the security agencies by providing timely and accurate information regarding criminal activities and the whereabouts of criminal elements in their communities.
Lastly, Isiguzoro appealed to the Abia government to extend the necessary support and care to the family of the late Nmaduka. He requested that the government consider placing the deceased’s family on the statewide education scholarship and employment schemes, ensuring they receive monthly stipends and other impactful welfare packages to alleviate the trauma caused by this tragic incident.
On September 13th, 2023, Mr Zachary Nmaduka was brutally murdered by unidentified gunmen in Umuchioke, Ezieka, Akpukpa Uturu community in the Isiuakwato Local Government Area of Abia State. The community is now grappling with the loss of a prominent and respected figure in their midst.
