Enugu Governorship Election: LP’s Edeoga Rejects Tribunal Judgement, Vows to Pursue Legal Options

The Labour Party’s candidate for the Enugu State governorship election in 2023, Barrister Chijioke Edeoga, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the judgement of the election petition tribunal.

In its ruling, the tribunal dismissed Edeoga’s petition and declared Governor Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the validly elected governor.

However, in a statement released by the Edeoga/Nwokeabia Campaign Organisation, they have affirmed their determination to challenge the tribunal’s judgement at the appellate court.

The spokesperson of the Edeoga/Nwokeabia Campaign Organisation, Engr. George Ugwu, signed the statement.

The statement reads, “On Thursday, September 21, 2023, the Enugu State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal delivered its judgement on the petition brought by the Labour Party and its candidate, Barrister Chijioke Jonathan Edeoga, following the outcome of the March 18, 2023 Governorship elections in the state, which was announced in favour of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barrister Peter Mbah.

“We wish to acknowledge the judgement of the tribunal and state our readiness to challenge this verdict at the Court of Appeal, exploring all the legal avenues available to us.”

The statement further encourages supporters of the Labour Party to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the campaign will continue to pursue justice.

“We have unwavering faith in the judicial system and will exhaust all legal options to ensure that the aspirations of the Enugu people, who came out in numbers to vote for Labour Party candidates on March 18, 2023, are respected and fulfilled,” the statement emphasizes.
