Promise Aloba, the mother of the late Nigerian singer, Mohbad, is appealing to the Federal Government and the Nigerian public to help uncover the truth behind her son’s untimely demise.

She made this plea during a condolence visit by Sen. Elisha Abbo, Chairman of the House Committee on Entertainment Economy, and Nollywood actresses Tonto Dikeh and Iyabo Ojo, which took place in Lagos on Thursday.

Speaking in Yoruba, Mrs. Aloba alleged a connection between Naira Marley, the owner of Marlian Record label, and her son’s death.

She is also seeking assistance in further investigating the matter.

Mohbad, aged 27, was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records but left the label in 2022.

According to his mother, he had frequently expressed concerns about threats to his life from Naira Marley and other individuals.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Mrs. Aloba said, “I know my son. He told me that Naira Marley frequently threatened him. Nigerians, please help me find him; please have mercy on me; that is all you can do for me.”

“I cannot find him on my own. He also told me that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) gave him some water in a bottle to drink some time ago. Help me, please.

“My son was always beaten. He even mentioned Sam Larry, whom I don’t know. They enslaved my son.

“He always asked me to protect him so that he wouldn’t be killed. These were his pleas until they eventually took his life. Please help me.”

Senator Abbo assured Mohbad’s mother of protection and promised to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

He also pledged to spearhead the campaign for a Creative Economy Commission, which aims to address conflicts within the creative industry, including disputes related to record labels and artist contracts.

“This commission will also help prevent situations where individuals resort to taking the law into their own hands,” said Senator Abbo.

NAN reports that the Lagos State Police Command announced on Thursday that the exhumation of Mohbad’s body has been completed for the purpose of conducting an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation into his death.
