President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had a meeting with members of the Nigerians in the Diaspora Community in the United States. The meeting, organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), took place during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
During the meeting, President Tinubu urged Nigerians living in the US to consider investing their resources in Nigeria’s economy. He encouraged them to adopt a new mindset and see Nigeria as a home for business opportunities.
President Tinubu, drawing from his own experience as a diasporan, emphasized the importance of having a change of mindset. He told the gathering, “Take it this night that Nigeria is home for business opportunities. Also, anywhere you stay, there is always going to be an opportunity in it, and in everything you do, there is always going to be an opportunity, if you know how to search and put your mind to it.”
The President commended the Nigerians in the US for their exemplary conduct and their success in their country of residence. He said, “You are lucky to be among those who are celebrated for good manners and behavior and are operating acceptably. I’m very proud of you; I have also been a beneficiary of inspiration, determination, commitment, and perseverance, and that is all you need to pull through. But, we need you back home, Nigeria has arrived; forget the frustration of the previous years’ leaderships.”
President Tinubu also highlighted his administration’s focus on addressing important issues such as out-of-school children, healthcare programs, and poverty eradication. He stressed that Nigeria has no reason to be poor and attributed poverty to leadership challenges. He said, “Sincerely, we don’t have any reason to be poor. We are just poor in some leadership areas. That is what I harped on during my campaign. It was a very gruesome campaign but I won the election. If I didn’t throw myself into it with strong determination and resolve, I wouldn’t have won.”
President Tinubu’s meeting with Nigerians in the US is a testament to his commitment to engaging with the diaspora community and encouraging their contribution to Nigeria’s development. By urging them to invest in Nigeria’s economy, he is recognizing their potential to make a significant impact and help drive the country’s growth.
