Anambra Police Warn Against Circulation of Old Videos to Incite Panic

The Anambra State Police Command has issued a warning stating that individuals found circulating old videos of attacks on security operatives with the intent to cause panic in the state will be arrested.

In a press release sent to Media Talk Africa, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, expressed concerns about the dissemination of videos from an attack on soldiers in Umunze last year, being falsely presented as recent occurrences, in an attempt to paint the state as insecure.

The release stated, “The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has condemned the actions of individuals sharing old video clips of the burning of a commercial bus at Nanka and killing of soldiers at Umunze, which both took place last year during the period of insecurity.”

Describing the act of circulating such outdated video clips as “vile propaganda,” the Commissioner warned those spreading false alarms to instill fear among the public that they would face legal consequences.

Furthermore, the Commissioner has directed the Cybercrime Unit of the Nigeria Police Force to identify and apprehend those involved in resurrecting these old videos in order to create panic and anxiety among the populace.

The Commissioner wishes to assure the people of Anambra that the Police, along with other security agencies, will go above and beyond to safeguard them from the malevolent forces that seek to disrupt their peace and that of the nation.

He urges the people of Anambra to disregard these videos and avoid assisting the enemies of progress by sharing them.
