In a major breakthrough, troops belonging to Operation Safe Heaven (OPSH) have successfully dismantled a gun manufacturing factory located in Kafanchan, within the Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Nigerian Army, in a statement released on Friday, confirmed that this operation was a direct response to the unyielding determination of OPSH commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, to bring sponsors and perpetrators of criminal activities to justice.

The operation, which unfolded from Thursday night until Friday morning, resulted in the seizure of a substantial cache of dangerous weapons.

Following a week-long intelligence operation, troops were able to apprehend a notorious gunrunner by the name of Napoleon John. Upon confessing his involvement in illicit activities, John led the troops to an undisclosed factory where a variety of firearms were being sold by an individual known as Monday Dunia. Dunia himself admitted to having been in the business for over five years, thereby exacerbating the ongoing crisis in both Kaduna and neighbouring Plateau State.

The statement revealed, “A comprehensive search of the factory premises led to the confiscation of 22 distinct weapons, including 7 pistols, 2 locally fabricated AK 47 rifles, 2 military grade AK 47 rifles, and 9 revolvers. Additionally, a submachine gun, rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, machine tools, and a gas cylinder were also discovered.”

Further seizures at the site included 2 AK-47 rifles, 2 revolver rifles, live rounds of 9mm and 7.62 ammunition, 6 dangerous daggers, a hacking axe, various empty cases of 7.62mm special rounds, 2 mobile phones, a fragmental jacket, 2 police uniforms, military camouflage trousers, an ammunition magazine carrier, a pistol holster, a military-grade camel pouch, a police combat helmet, 2 masks, 4 identity cards, gunpowder, shrapnels, charms, amulets, as well as machine tools and other equipment.
