Kebbi State Government Takes Bold Step to Curb Insecurity: Bans Mining Activities

In response to the alarming rise in insecurity within the state, the Kebbi State Government has taken decisive action by issuing a ban on all mining activities. The ban, as announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Tafida, aims to protect the lives and property of the state’s residents, as well as safeguard mining workers and host communities.

Despite mining being under the exclusive legislative list, the state government made the proactive decision to impose the ban after conducting a thorough assessment of the current security situation. The safety and security of its citizens take precedence, and the government aims to prevent mining areas from becoming havens for criminal activities carried out by unauthorized foreign individuals.

Tafida emphasized the importance of learning from the experiences of neighboring states where similar situations have occurred. By taking this precautionary measure, Kebbi State aims to avoid the same pitfalls and safeguard the welfare of its people.

The state government recognizes the need to address concerns through a comprehensive evaluation process and the strict enforcement of regulations. This initiative will not only promote responsible mining practices but also protect the environment, boost revenue generation, and, most importantly, ensure the safety of individuals living in the state.
