The Government of Jigawa State has sadly confirmed the deaths of ten individuals due to an outbreak of diphtheria within the state.
Dr Salisu Mu’azu, the esteemed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, verified this distressing news during an interview with the press on Friday.
Reports indicate that the state has recorded a staggering total of 91 cases of diphtheria across 14 local government areas.
According to the esteemed physician, “Regrettably, ten individuals who exhibited symptoms associated with diphtheria have succumbed to the disease in Jigawa State.”
Dr Mu’azu further confirmed that an additional two samples from the Kazure and Jahun areas have been securely transported to Abuja for laboratory testing and confirmation.
In response to this outbreak, the state government is actively organizing the administration of vaccines. Concurrently, they are making significant efforts to contain the spread of the disease from neighboring states.
It is disheartening to note that in the neighboring state of Kano, over 320 children have lost their lives as a result of diphtheria, as previously reported by Media Talk Africa.
