Popular Big Brother Naija star, Tacha Akide, known fondly as Tacha, has praised the Lagos State Police for taking action against the crowd during singer Mohbad’s candlelight procession at Lekki tollgate on Thursday night.

According to a post on social media by the event organizers, a candlelight procession was planned to honor Mohbad at Muri Okunola Park on Thursday. However, after the procession at Victoria Island’s Muri Okunola Park, the police resorted to firing tear gas at some of Mohbad’s sympathizers who had gathered at the Lekki tollgate.

Speaking on the matter, Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that the crowd was dispersed due to the complete standstill of vehicular movement on the route, causing significant traffic congestion. Hundeyin further emphasized that there was a prior agreement with the organizers that the candlelight procession would conclude by 8 pm.

In response to the incident, Tacha took to her official Instagram page on Friday to express her support for the police’s actions in dispersing the crowd after the procession. She commended the Nigerian police for their efforts and even cited videos showing police officers urging people to disperse.

Tacha’s post read, “Kudos to the Nigerian police. I have seen videos of police begging people to dispatch themselves. We did not come out to continue #EndSARS. Everybody came out for Mohbad’s candlelight procession. We can all agree that the organizers clearly stated that everyone should go home. However, if you wish to protest, make sure you obtain official approval from the government and then you can proceed with your demonstration. Let us stop changing the narrative.”
