The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called for a strong partnership with Nigeria’s advertising industry to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He made this appeal at the 50th Annual General Meeting of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) in Abuja.

Represented by Sunday Baba, the Director of Public Communication and National Orientation, the Minister emphasized the need for the AAAN to harness their creative resources in order to contribute towards building a better Nigeria. He stated, “We are soliciting for the cooperation of the AAAN in keying into the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration and supporting the government’s commitment to the value orientation of citizens.”

The Minister also recognized the significant contributions made by the AAAN to national development, acknowledging their dedication to excellence, professionalism, and ethical standards in the field of advertising over the past five decades.

Positioning for the Future

The President of the AAAN, Steve Babaeko, highlighted the association’s progress and future plans in the country’s marketing communications industry with the theme “50 Years Young Ready for More.” He emphasized the pivotal role played by the advertising industry in youth employment and the overall growth of Nigeria’s creative sector.

Babaeko expressed that the advertising industry has become a substantial contributor to Nigeria’s GDP, particularly in the creative industry, encompassing film, music, arts, and fashion. He stated, “So that makes advertising a very major player within the macro-economy of Nigeria. With the influx of young talent coming into the industry, we are braced for even more remarkable achievements in the future.”

Nigeria’s creative sector, driven by young and talented individuals, is experiencing significant growth. It has become a thriving industry with opportunities across various value chains, providing employment to many.

The 50th Anniversary Conference of the AAAN served as a platform for reflection on past achievements and for charting a course towards a brighter future in Nigeria’s advertising industry. Dignitaries and influential figures from Nigeria’s advertising industry graced the event held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
