The Late Major General Bernard Onyeuko Laid to Rest in Abuja

The Nigerian Army bid farewell to Major General Bernard Onyeuko in a solemn military ceremony at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. The former Defence spokesman’s untimely passing on August 26, shortly after his retirement, left many in shock, unable to comprehend the loss of a man known for his kind and compassionate nature.

During the funeral, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, described Major General Onyeuko as a remarkable individual who lived his life like a saint sent from heaven. He offered his condolences to the deceased officer’s family and assured them that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would stand by them, continuing the work for peace that Major General Onyeuko had fought so valiantly for in his lifetime.

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, echoed this sentiment, pledging the Nigerian Army’s unwavering support to the family during their time of grief. He emphasized the importance of reflecting on Major General Onyeuko’s legacy and fostering camaraderie among military personnel.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, represented by Rear Admiral Kennedy Ezete, Chief of Administration (Navy), conveyed the condolences of the Nigerian Navy to the Nigerian Army and the bereaved family.

The Life and Achievements of Major General Bernard Onyeuko

Major General Bernard Onyeuko was a distinguished member of the 38 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and served as the Director of Procurement at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. Throughout his military career, he demonstrated exceptional expertise and served in various capacities in different locations across Nigeria, including Kaduna, Maiduguri, Enugu, Jos, Lagos, and Abuja.

Major General Onyeuko also participated in peacekeeping operations, both as part of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) and the United Nations. His contributions to fostering peace in Morocco under the United Nations Peacekeeping umbrella were invaluable.

The late Major General Bernard Onyeuko leaves behind a legacy of dedication, compassion, and outstanding service to the Nigerian Army. His presence will be sorely missed, but his impact will endure in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
