Troops from the 103 Battalion (Rear) of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, currently on Operation UDO KA II, have rescued a kidnap victim, Dr Maxwell Ayim. This heroic act took place along Road Four Corner-Agbogwe in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

According to a statement released on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 82 Division, the rescue operation followed a fierce gun battle between the troops and the armed kidnappers.

Lieutenant Colonel Unuakhalu explained that the troops, stationed at the Udi checkpoint, received a distress call on Thursday about the activities of the assailants. Responding swiftly, the troops engaged in a fierce gun duel to thwart the kidnappers.

“The rescue operation was conducted when troops deployed at the Udi checkpoint received a distress call on the incident. On arrival, troops came in contact with the kidnappers,” the statement said.

“However, due to the superior firepower of the troops, the members of the criminal gang fled into the nearby bushes with gunshot wounds, in disarray.”

The statement further elaborated, “During the pursuit of the fleeing kidnappers, the gallant troops discovered the victim abandoned along their withdrawal route. Without hesitation, the troops immediately rescued the victim, who has since been reunited with his family after undergoing preliminary medical checks.”

Additionally, the Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA II called on the law-abiding citizens of Enugu State and the Southeast region to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible, and reliable information to assist security operatives in their efforts to combat insecurity in the area.
