The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that there were no casualties in the collapse of a three-storey building on Ikpoh Street in Surulere, Lagos.

According to Ibrahim Farinloye, the Territorial Coordinator of NEMA, the incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Friday night at No. 14 Ikpoh Street.

An occupant of the building, Gervase Anyanwu, who is a businessman, confirmed that all other occupants were able to evacuate the building before it completely collapsed.

Mr. Anyanwu explained that there was a loud sound from one wing of the building prior to the collapse, prompting everyone to gather at a safe point before evacuating.

“No casualty was recorded,” Mr. Anyanwu affirmed, attributing the successful evacuation to divine intervention.

However, another resident of the street revealed that the building had exhibited significant signs of distress prior to the collapse.

At present, excavation of the rubble has not commenced, but all relevant government emergency agencies are present at the site.
