A non-governmental organisation in Nigeria, the Centre for Media, Policy and Accountability (CMPA), is intensifying its commitment to support the ongoing battle against corruption in the country.

During a Round-table Discussion held in Abuja, the NGO highlighted the need for collaboration among key stakeholders as part of its Nigeria Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting (NAPPR) Project.

The Executive Director of CMPA and project manager, Dr. Suleiman Suleiman, called for the collective input of past and present heads of Anti-corruption Agencies, mid-level executives involved in various ACA’s, Investigative Journalists, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and the Media to develop a standardized template for anti-corruption reporting in Nigeria.

Dr. Suleiman stressed the significance of data collection for the success of this initiative.

Funded by the MacArthur Foundation, Dr. Suleiman exclaimed, “Our objective is to bridge the gap between the efforts of Anti-Corruption Agencies and public perception, by fostering collaboration between CSOs and media organizations in shaping anti-corruption reporting.”

The Director of Policy & Strategic Planning, Dr. Abdulmutalib Abubakar, further reaffirmed CMPA’s vision and commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria.

The central theme of the meeting revolved around the design of a unified framework for reporting anti-corruption activities, with the shared aim of enhancing transparency, consistency, and public awareness.

Participants at the round-table discussion included CSOs, media representatives, governance experts, and stakeholders who engaged in fruitful conversations, shared best practices, and contributed to the development of a cohesive reporting mechanism for combating corruption.

The Centre for Media, Policy, and Accountability (CMPA) is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to anti-corruption efforts, research, public policy analysis, transparency, and accountability.

CMPA remains steadfast in its mission to strengthen social, economic, and democratic governance in Nigeria.
