According to Dr. John Ngamsa, a don at Modibbo Adama University in Yola and a member of the Adamawa State Committee on Farmer-Herder Conflicts, clashes between cattle herders and farmers have resulted in the loss of 305 lives in Adamawa State over the course of five years.

Speaking at an interactive session hosted by Ramo Multimedia Center in Yola, Dr. Ngamsa referred to media reports and stated, “At least 305 people were killed in herder-farmer-related clashes in Adamawa State between 2016 and 2021. These senseless clashes between farmers and herders in the region have been ongoing since the early 2000s.”

Dr. Ngamsa highlighted that the persistent farmer-herder conflicts, particularly in Demsa Local Government Area, have had devastating consequences on both lives and properties. He further emphasized that resolving these conflicts is crucial for the overall development of the state and the country as a whole.

However, Dr. Ngamsa also acknowledged the efforts made by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in implementing deliberate peace-making initiatives, attributing a reduction in clashes over the past four years to these efforts. He commended Governor Fintiri for his dedication and stated that the Adamawa State Committee on Farmer-Herder Conflicts has been working tirelessly to establish a lasting peace framework for the safety of the state’s residents.

It is imperative that stability is achieved between farmers and herders in Adamawa State for progress and prosperity to flourish. Resolving these conflicts is not only essential for the well-being of the people but also for the overall development of the state and the nation at large.
