The Governor of Enugu State, Barrister Peter Mbah, has instructed all political appointees to meet the performance benchmarks set for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Governor Mbah emphasized the urgency to deliver on the administration’s campaign promises during his closing remarks at a three-day Executive Leadership Retreat held for senior political appointees at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu.

Achieving Disruptive Innovation and Sustainable Development

The retreat, which was themed “Strategic Leadership for Disruptive Innovation and Sustainable Development,” brought together renowned experts in leadership, development, finance, climate, public sector, strategy, and innovation. Notable participants included Prof. Joseph Urama of the African Development Bank, Dr. Ibukun Awosika, Linus Okorie, Dr. Joe Abah, Dr. Sam Onyia, and Prof. Chukwumerije Okereke.

Speaking at the retreat, Governor Mbah expressed confidence that the state’s economy, currently at $4.4 billion, could be raised to $30 billion. He urged political appointees to apply the knowledge gained from the retreat to disrupt the prevailing societal norms that are no longer acceptable. The governor emphasized that development history is filled with examples of places where people united to change the narrative and achieve remarkable growth.

Realizing Enugu’s Potential

Governor Mbah outlined his vision for Enugu, stating that with determination and a can-do spirit, the state can accomplish significant milestones. These include transforming Enugu into a premier destination for business, investment, tourism, and living. The governor highlighted the need to provide access to high-quality education and healthcare services, build 10,000 kilometers of roads, restore water supply, eradicate poverty, and fulfill all campaign promises.

Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, provided further insight into the retreat’s objectives. He explained that the retreat aimed to analyze Governor Mbah’s vision and devise strategies to realize it across various MDAs. The retreat focused on three key areas: leadership, strategy, and performance measurement.

Appointees Inspired and Empowered

Participants at the retreat, including Barr. Victor Udeh, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Lloyd Ekweremadu, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Dame Ugochi Madueke, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Nathaniel Uramah, Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Welfare, Rita Mbah, Executive Chairman, Enugu State Tourism Board, and Dr. GOC Ajah, Chairman, Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), praised the retreat for its enlightening and strategic nature.

Mrs. Ngozi Enih expressed confidence in the achievability of Governor Mbah’s ambitious vision, stating that the retreat had empowered and equipped them with the knowledge to deliver on their mandates in their respective MDAs.
