Ekiti Governor Recalls Sports Council Boss Over Athletes’ Poor Kitting at National Youth Games

The General Manager of Ekiti State Sports Council, Adekunle Adeyemi, has been recalled from the ongoing 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State. This decision comes in response to the outrage generated on the internet over the poor kits worn by the Ekiti contingent.

Photographs of the Ekiti athletes in their subpar kits during the opening ceremony of the competition went viral, causing concerns and criticism. As a result, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has taken action by recalling Adeyemi and demanding an explanation for the deplorable state of the athletes’ attire.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the Governor was deeply embarrassed by the situation at the ceremony. The directive for Adeyemi to return home and hand over to the next most senior official at the Games was issued in light of the Governor’s dissatisfaction.

“The directive followed the shabby appearance of the State contingent at the march-past event during the opening ceremony of the National Youth Games,” explained the Commissioner.

He further added, “Adeyemi is directed to immediately hand over to the next most senior official at the Games and return home to explain circumstances leading to the shabby kitting of the state athletes, whose photograph is circulating on social media.”

While acknowledging that the state government had adequately provided for the team’s participation in the Games, the Commissioner emphasized the need for accountability and addressed the disappointment caused by the athletes’ poor kitting.
