In a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, popular singer and songwriter Timi Dakolo reminisced about the life-changing moment when he received his first N1 million.
Dakolo revealed that this extraordinary sum of money was gifted to him by a kind-hearted individual who had spotted him on television during his participation in the inaugural Idols West Africa competition back in 2007.
Receiving such a substantial gift left Dakolo both amazed and sleepless, and it even had an impact on his way of speaking. He shared, “There was somebody that gave me N1m from nowhere. I had never seen N10,000 before. The money I used to have then was always N1,300, N800, N1,200, and N520. And somebody gave me N1m cash. He came to the hotel and gave me N1m. He said he doesn’t watch TV but he saw me on TV and he felt he should give me N1m.”
The overwhelming sight of that significant sum of money left Dakolo in awe. He couldn’t sleep, constantly staring at the stack of cash in disbelief. He knew in that moment that his life would change forever. The unexpected gift even affected his speech, as Dakolo added, “I caught myself speaking good English.”
