Impeachment Process Commences: Ondo Assembly Serves Letter to Deputy Governor

The Ondo State House of Assembly has taken the first step towards the impeachment of the state’s Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, by serving him a letter containing allegations of misconduct.

During a press briefing held in Akure on Monday, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, confirmed that Aiyedatiwa was officially served with the letter today through substituted service.

Allegations of Gross Misconduct

The decision to serve the Deputy Governor the letter comes after the Ondo State House of Assembly directed the Clerk to contact Aiyedatiwa regarding allegations of gross misconduct during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Speaker Oladiji disclosed that the House had been attempting to serve Aiyedatiwa with the notice since September 20, but had been unsuccessful until resorting to the court for substituted service.

“After obtaining an affidavit from the court for substituted service, we were finally able to serve the Deputy Governor through his office. The letter was received by his secretary,” explained Oladiji.

Pressure and Threats

Addressing concerns over the impeachment process, Speaker Oladiji revealed that he has been facing pressure and threats.

“Despite the messages I have been receiving in an attempt to intimidate me, I want it to be known that I am not under any pressure except for the threats. This is a legislative assignment,” stated Oladiji.

In addition, the Speaker alleged that his life has been in danger, citing the discovery of fetish objects left at the entrance to his official residence earlier that day.

Appeal to the Public and Security Agencies

Expressing concern for his safety, Speaker Oladiji called upon the people of Ondo State and security agencies to help identify and apprehend those responsible for the threats.

“Early this morning, when I was about to leave my residence, I discovered an object at the entrance. These threats began as soon as we initiated the impeachment process. I have also been receiving strange phone calls,” shared Oladiji.

“I urge the people of Ondo State and security operatives to join forces in tracking down these individuals,” he added.
