The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to improving the lives of the less privileged in the society through the provision of essential services in healthcare, education, and other sectors.

Speaking during a mass to commemorate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Celebration at St. Patrick Cathedral, Awka, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude for the nation’s blessings amidst its challenges and unveiled his plans to uplift the poor residents of Anambra State.

The Governor acknowledged that Nigeria faces numerous challenges but emphasized the need for celebration. He highlighted recent achievements such as the recruitment of five thousand teachers into the school system and the provision of antenatal and delivery care for pregnant women in government hospitals. Moreover, Governor Soludo affirmed his administration’s determination to break the cycle of poverty in the state.

He passionately advocated for equal opportunities for children from poor backgrounds, emphasizing that they should have the same access to education as their affluent counterparts. Governor Soludo outlined his plans to introduce grants and special packages to support mission schools, while firmly prioritizing the provision of quality education for children in public schools.

“We are on our road to a livable and prosperous homeland, having the children of the poor attending the same school with children of the rich, taught by the same teachers and given the chance to progress in life and contribute to the development of society. This is the kind of society we envision,” he declared.

The Governor also urged the congregation to be cautious of misleading information disseminated by enemies of the government through fake news, which aim to instill fear and panic in the state.

Prior to Governor Soludo’s address, Reverend Father Charles Ndubuisi delivered a homily stating that Nigeria is afflicted by corruption and is in dire need of healing. However, Rev. Fr. Ndubuisi expressed hope for a future where the country will thrive once again and regain its position as a leading African nation.

The priest commended Governor Soludo for his unwavering commitment to building a livable and prosperous homeland, assuring him of the church’s continued support in realizing his vision.

The church service was attended by dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, members of the Anambra State Executive Council, members of the Anambra State Legislature, members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, members of the Federal Road Safety Corps, and members of the Nigeria Service Civil Defense Corps, among others.
