ACF Calls for Sanctions Against Those Threatening Peace in Kogi Governorship Polls

The Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Arch. Gabriel Aduku, has emphasized the need for sanctions against anyone who poses a threat to peace, regardless of their status or position.

This warning comes as the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State approaches.

In a statement issued to commemorate the World Day of Peace, Aduku highlighted that peace is crucial for the country’s development and that sanctions are necessary to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election, as well as to restore confidence in the nation’s democracy.

“The situation in Kogi State is particularly concerning, especially in the lead-up to the off-season gubernatorial election on November 11, 2023,” Aduku expressed.

He further added, “The commencement of campaigns for the election has been marred by various forms of state-tolerated violence, thereby posing a threat to the peace and security of the state.”

Highlighting recent incidents, Aduku stated, “There have been reported cases of intimidation of candidates from opposition political parties by the ruling APC government in Kogi State. This is seemingly an attempt to hinder candidates with credible backgrounds from realizing their aspirations. Such practices must be curtailed, considering the plural nature of our democratic system.”
