Kano State Government Pledges Support for Human Rights

The Kano State Government has affirmed its commitment to providing unwavering support for the promotion and protection of human rights within the state.

During the opening ceremony of the Fourth Cycle of the United Nations UPR Engagement with Stakeholders, organized by the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) at the Tahir Guest Palace in Kano, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Kano State, made this known while representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Barr. Dederi emphasized that Kano State upholds the principles of human rights and will continue to actively facilitate reforms and the implementation of human rights activities.

The Commissioner expressed his appreciation to the organizers of the UPR Stakeholders engagement workshop for selecting Kano as the venue for the event.

To the participants from other states across the nation, he urged them to leverage the knowledge gained from the workshop for the benefit of their respective states and the country as a whole.

Bar. Princess Chikwuani, the representative of the Solicitor General of the Federation, highlighted the objectives of the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The UPR seeks to assess the fulfillment of human rights commitments and obligations by all member states, as enshrined in the UN charter.

Barr. Chikwuani also explained that the purpose of the Stakeholders Engagement is to gather and compile information on the current human rights situation in Nigeria for the Fourth Cycle Review.
