The Kwara State Government has taken a commendable step towards supporting the education of its students by initiating the disbursement of financial assistance to 26,852 students studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of its students.

Thorough Screening Process

After weeks of thorough screening, the disbursement of financial assistance began on Monday. Each beneficiary received a palliative fund of 10,000 Naira directly into their bank account, aimed at alleviating the additional expenses that students face due to the removal of fuel subsidy.

Token Support for Students

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq describes this financial assistance as a token of support for the students. This initiative is part of the government’s multisectoral palliatives that have been rolled out since June, aiming to provide relief to the citizens during challenging times.

Efficient Allocation and Transparent Distribution

Professor Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, the Chairman of the Students’ Palliatives Committee, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of the students by directly disbursing the funds into their bank accounts. This approach guarantees a transparent and efficient allocation process.

In addition, efforts were made to ensure that students from various academic disciplines and backgrounds received the financial assistance. This inclusivity enables the government to cater to the needs of a diverse range of deserving students from 140 higher institutions across the country.

Careful Verification and Analysis

During the data verification and analysis carried out by the technical committee, ineligible students were excluded from the beneficiaries’ list. These exclusions included incomplete registrations, multiple registrations, and forged citizenship certificates. As a result, the total number of beneficiaries was pegged at 26,852, out of the initial 30,775 students who registered online.

Government’s Commitment to Student Welfare

The Kwara State Government remains resolute in its commitment to the welfare of its people, particularly students. This financial assistance program is just one of the many initiatives introduced by the government to ease the financial burden on students and create an environment where they can thrive academically. It is worth mentioning that the government has also implemented free bus services for students, primarily in the metropolis.

Several Kwara State students, who were interviewed by VON from various institutions, confirmed the receipt of the 10,000 Naira into their accounts. They commended the government for this thoughtful gesture, which will undoubtedly alleviate their financial challenges.
