The Federal Government has approved the acquisition of 12 MD 530F Cayuse Attack Helicopters, further strengthening the Nigerian Army’s operational capabilities in tackling the country’s security challenges.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, announced in a statement that the procurement of these new attack helicopters is part of the ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to enhance the operational capabilities of the Army Aviation. This move aims to effectively address both current and future security threats.
Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), made the disclosure while inaugurating the Nigerian Army Aviation Maiden Seminar on Aviation Security Awareness at the Army Headquarters. The seminar, with the theme “Enhancing the Capacity of the Nigerian Army Aviation towards Achieving Constitutional Responsibilities in a Joint Environment,” reflects the COAS’s commitment to transforming the Nigerian Army into a highly trained, well-equipped, and motivated force.
The seminar provides a platform for industry experts to engage in fruitful discussions, sharing invaluable insights into the future of Nigerian Army Aviation. It serves as a means to address critical issues and explore ways to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the force.
General Lagbaja acknowledged the commendable progress made by the Nigerian Army since 2014 in terms of training pilots, aircraft engineers, technicians, and ground support crews. He highlighted the importance of proper mentoring in the highly technical field of aviation, emphasizing the Army’s dedication to consistently improving its capabilities in this area.
