In a bid to rejuvenate the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and ensure its effective performance, President Bola Tinubu has appointed a new management team, according to Sen. Abdullahi Gumel, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate).
Gumel made this announcement in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja. He emphasized that the appointment of the new team is an integral part of the efforts to revive the country’s economy and overcome its challenges.
Gumel further explained, “The CBN’s reputation has been severely tarnished, and therefore, this new team is like a rescue squad that has been brought in to salvage the image of the CBN. Not only Nigerians, but also the ECOWAS sub-region and the African Union (AU) are eagerly awaiting the resurgence of Nigeria’s economy, as it will contribute to their own security and prosperity.”
Furthermore, Gumel commended the Senate for promptly confirming the appointment of Mr. Olayemi Cardoso as the CBN Governor and his team on the first day of its plenary session after the recess.
“The screening process was successful, with comprehensive discussions on matters pertaining to the economy. The senators expressed the sentiments of Nigerians, and their conversations with the CBN governor and his team reflected the concerns of the Nigerian populace regarding the CBN,” Gumel remarked.
Gumel expressed confidence that the Senate would soon screen and confirm the president’s other appointees.
