In an impressive display of confidence, Senator Dino Melaye, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has boldly stated his mission to retire the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to a political obituary. This resolute declaration was made during the inauguration of the PDP Local Government election campaign committee in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Maladministration, Non-Payment of Salaries, and Insecurity

Senator Melaye did not mince his words as he berated the APC for what he described as their alleged maladministration, non-payment of salaries, and failure to address the issue of insecurity. He urged the electorate not to be intimidated and to remain steadfast before, during, and after the forthcoming November Governorship election.

Highlighting Kogi State’s diminishing reputation, Melaye emphasized that the present administration has succeeded in dividing the people along ethnic and religious lines. He expressed his discontent and asserted that when elected, he would usher in a new era of progress and unity for the state.

Kogi State is Seeking a Messiah

The PDP candidate passionately described the prevailing dissatisfaction amongst the people of Kogi State, attributing it to issues such as maladministration, poverty, non-payment of salaries, gratuity, and lack of promotion opportunities. Melaye presented himself, along with his running mate Habiba, as the messiahs that the people have been yearning for.

In order to alleviate the fear that has been instilled in the minds of the people by the APC, Melaye called upon the Local Government Chairmen to play a pivotal role as evangelists and imams, inspiring and encouraging the electorate to actively participate in the electoral process. Unafraid of Governor Yahaya Bello or the ruling party, Melaye urged the people of Kogi State to demonstrate their courage and show that they are not a conquered territory.

A Party with Plans

Vouching for the PDP’s qualifications as a party with well-organized plans to serve the interests of the people, Melaye criticized anyone who still considers voting for the APC as suffering from “arthritis of the brain.” He highlighted the various challenges faced by the state, including the deplorable condition of roads, lack of water supply, dilapidated hospitals, and non-payment of salaries. He also emphasized the unprecedented situation where House of Assembly members, commissioners, and even a permanent secretary have been deprived of official vehicles.

Melaye expressed disbelief at the unjust termination of contracts of 120 highly qualified professors from Kogi State University, branding the decision as a setback for the state. However, he reassured the people that he would rebuild and transform Kogi State when given the opportunity to govern.

A Plea for Unification

Melaye urged the electorate to reject any form of ethnic agenda during the upcoming election. He promised to lead an administration that would unite the people of Kogi State, bridging any divisions that currently exist.

PDP is Ready for Victory

Sen. Philip Aduda, the caretaker Chairman of PDP in Kogi State, echoed Senator Melaye’s sentiments and affirmed that the opposition party is fully prepared to put an end to the era of bad governance in the state. He called on party members to rally their support and work diligently to ensure resounding victory for the PDP in the upcoming elections.

Olajide John, representing the 21 Local Government Chairmen, expressed their unwavering commitment to securing victory for the PDP. He emphasized the importance of unity, trust, and confidence among party members, declaring that the ultimate goal is to liberate Kogi State from the clutches of a tyrannical regime.
