Manchester United’s attacking coach, Benni McCarthy, recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of Erling Haaland joining the Red Devils, stating that it is unlikely to happen. McCarthy also emphasized that, despite Haaland’s impressive goal-scoring record over the past year, there is still room for improvement in his game.
Haaland’s Outstanding Performance in the Premier League Last Season
In the previous Premier League season, Haaland showcased his immense talent by clinching the top scorer title with an astonishing 36 goals in just 35 appearances.
McCarthy’s Perspective on Haaland’s Potential
Despite the remarkable numbers Haaland achieved, McCarthy believes that the Manchester City superstar still has untapped potential.
“If he [Haaland] was to sign for Man United, then hell yeah. I would love to contribute, but I don’t see that ever happening. He’s still got loads of room for improvement,” McCarthy expressed.
McCarthy’s analysis of attacking players has led him to conclude that Haaland could enhance his game, particularly when facing tight-marking defenders.
“I observed in the match against Real Madrid that when Antonio Rudiger meticulously marked Haaland, he struggled to find solutions, despite his physical prowess. While he possesses incredible speed and heading ability, it’s crucial to adapt one’s gameplay to various defensive styles,” McCarthy explained.
