NIPOST Takes Action Against Illegal Logistics Operators in Abuja

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has launched a crackdown on illegal logistics operators in the Federal Capital Territory, with the aim of cleaning up the sector.

The Enforcement Team of the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD) carried out a monitored exercise on Thursday, which resulted in the confiscation of 20 motorbikes belonging to illegal operators.

Among the illegal operators affected by the clampdown were Henich, Mac-Nemos, DownTown Grill, Ruthy’s Logistics, and others operating in Abuja.

In a statement, Shonde ‘Dotun, the General Manager of CLRD, emphasized the importance of this exercise in reducing the number of unlicensed courier operators and addressing security concerns.

Similar clampdowns have been conducted in various states, including Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Katsina, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, and Kwara.

According to Dotun, acquiring an operational license has been made convenient and accessible at NIPOST offices nationwide.

“This operation is here to stay because Nigeria’s postal, express, courier, and logistics industry has been infiltrated by many unlicensed courier operators who disregard professional ethical standards,” he stated.

He further highlighted the issues of prohibited items, such as small arms and ammunition, guns, gold, obscene items, and money, which pose a significant threat to the postal industry and reflect negatively on Nigerian society at large.
