The Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organization has expressed its confidence that Igbos serving in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet will exceed expectations and deliver exceptional results.
This affirmation was made by Ohanaeze during a commendation for Tinubu’s appointment of key Igbo individuals to crucial positions, including Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dave Umahi as Minister of Works, and Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff.
The statement was contained in a communique issued by Ohanaeze’s leadership after a combined Ime-Obi meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, held as part of the activities commemorating the 2023 Igbo Day celebration.
The communique, signed by factional Secretary-General Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Prof Elechi Chinda-Wonye, and Prof Thomas Ellah of Yale University, commended Tinubu’s efforts in the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project and urged him to prioritize the reopening of the Port Harcourt wharf and other Eastern ports.
Part of the communique reads, “We equally commend the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the appointment of Ndigbo into some strategic positions in his Government such as the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Engr Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, and Barr Nyesom Wike, as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
“While noting that these men were all appointed based on merit, we wish to assure the President that they shall all deliver beyond expectations.
“While commending the President for the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, an infrastructural project with tremendous benefits, we urge him to prioritize the reopening of the Port Harcourt wharf and other Eastern ports so as to ease the burden on the Lagos ports and reduce congestion on Lagos roads.
“In view of the fact that, in line with the Ohanaeze constitution, it shall be the turn of Rivers State to produce the next President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo come 11th January 2025. Hosting this Igbo Day is meant to mobilize and sensitize the stakeholders and members of the Rivers State chapter of the Apex Igbo organization, to ensure that suitable candidates for the office are identified.”
