Kaduna guber: Social media may trigger another civil war in Nigeria – Onanuga

Bayo Onanuga, a former media aide to President Bola Tinubu, has called for the urgent regulation of the social media space.

Onanuga said the misinformation and disinformation disseminated on social media might trigger another civil war in Nigeria.

He made the call in reaction to conflicting reports on the ruling of the Kaduna governorship election tribunal.

He lamented a report that the Kaduna governorship election was declared inconclusive while the tribunal was still reading its judgment.

Reacting, Onanuga tweeted: “Social media need to be regulated urgently. So many spurious reports today about the Kaduna governorship verdict by the Election Tribunal.

“The most notoriously shared headline: “Kaduna governorship election declared inconclusive.” This was circulating while the tribunal was still reading its judgment.

“There should be some control in the social media space, otherwise the misinformation and disinformation being disseminated will one day trigger a civil war in our country.”
