Protest Erupts in Abuja over Dismissal of UMTC Boss by FCT Minister Wike

A decision by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, to dismiss the Managing Director of Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company (AUMTCO), Najeed Abdulsalam, has sparked protests in Abuja.

The employees of AUMTCO are currently demonstrating against the removal of their Managing Director.

On Wednesday, FCT Minister Wike ordered the removal of heads of FCT agencies and parastatals, which included the termination of Abdulsalam’s appointment.

Anthony Ogunleye, the Director of Press in the Office of the Minister, confirmed this in a statement, revealing that the appointments of 21 heads of parastatals, agencies, and government companies within the FCT Administration (FCTA) were immediately terminated.

Additionally, the affected appointees were instructed by Wike to hand over the affairs of their offices to the most senior officers in rank.

The staff members of AUMTCO were distraught, shedding tears as they protested against Abdulsalam’s removal.
