The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has urged officers of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) to exhibit a strong commitment to professionalism and patriotism in the execution of their duties.

Tunji-Ojo made this call during the passing-out parade of the 29th ASC Basic Course International, where 213 cadets graduated in Kaduna on Friday.

Representing the Minister, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the former Controller General of Corrections, noted that the participants had received comprehensive training in correctional strategies. He also mentioned that five of the cadets were from The Gambia, highlighting the positive impact of the six-month Basic Course on the participants.

The Minister emphasized the importance of applying the knowledge gained from the course to enhance the delivery of high-quality services within correctional facilities across the country.

He emphasized, “It is essential to always remember that the task of rebuilding Nigeria is a collective responsibility.”

Furthermore, the Minister urged the management of the training college to continue fulfilling its mandate of training and retraining correctional officers in accordance with globally recognized best practices.

Tunji-Ojo revealed that the Ministry is working towards fostering collaboration and synergy between the NCoS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Fire Service, and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to further enhance service delivery standards.

He added, “We are implementing more measures to ensure that the NCoS can effectively carry out its statutory responsibilities without any hindrance. Additionally, we are actively addressing the challenges faced by the service, including the general welfare of correctional officers and inmates.”

The event also featured the presentation of awards to outstanding graduates for their exceptional performances throughout the course.
