Police Dismiss Viral Inter-State Travel Safety Tips as Fake News

The Nigeria Police Force has refuted the authenticity of the viral inter-state travel safety tips currently circulating on social media, labeling them as fake news.

In a statement, the police clarified that these safety tips were not released by any of its officials and are therefore not endorsed by the force.

The misleading travel safety tips were falsely attributed to the Department of Force Intelligence (DFI), but the police have confirmed that they did not originate from any official department within their organization.

“We want to emphasize that these tips are not endorsed or issued by us,” stated the police in their official statement shared on X.

The police further stressed the importance of seeking information from reliable and official sources, cautioning against the spread of misinformation that could potentially cause unnecessary panic.

“While the safety of Nigerians is a top priority, it’s essential to rely on official information provided by our social media handles and other authorized sources for accurate and up-to-date information regarding security and safety,” the statement concluded.
