The United Kingdom has pledged its continued support to Nigeria’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in their efforts to reduce humanitarian crises and alleviate poverty in the country. Christopher Pycrof, the Development Director of the British High Commission in Abuja, made this commitment during his visit to Minister Betta Edu in her office in Abuja.

Pycrof assured the Minister that the British government is fully committed to providing any assistance necessary for the Ministry to succeed in its mandate. He emphasized the UK’s focus on both humanitarian and development aspects, aiming to find durable solutions and decrease the gap between immediate life-saving support and long-term development efforts.

In his remarks, Pycrof acknowledged the complexity of the Minister’s role, stating that she is tasked with addressing humanitarian issues while also addressing financial matters, health, agriculture, education, infrastructure, employment, and coordinating with federal and state governments.

Minister Edu expressed deep appreciation to the UK government for their continuous support and partnership over the years. She emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving Nigeria’s development goals, highlighting priorities such as poverty eradication, food security, job creation, and citizen protection.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, in collaboration with other line ministries, state governments, local governments, and development partners, including the United Kingdom, is dedicated to achieving positive outcomes that will benefit the Nigerian people.
