TCN Restores Power Supply in Birnin Kebbi After Weeks of Outage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored power supply in Birnin Kebbi and its surrounding areas after experiencing weeks of persistent blackouts.

Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, made this announcement on Saturday, bringing relief to residents who were affected by the prolonged power outage.

Fire Incident Causes Weeks of Blackouts

Several weeks ago, a fire incident occurred at the facilities of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, leading to power outages in Kebbi and two other states.

The fire outbreak resulted in the damage of two vital transformers – a 90MVA (330KV/132KV) transformer and a 60MVA (132KV/33KV) transformer situated in Birnin Kebbi.

Power Restored Through Kebbi Transmission Substation

In a statement, TCN disclosed that power supply was reinstated in Birnin Kebbi through the Kebbi Transmission Substation on Friday, 29th September 2023, at approximately 11.33 am.

The restoration process involved a dedicated team of substation, transmission lines, and Power Control & Maintenance (PC&M) engineers from various TCN regions across the country. These engineers worked diligently to ensure prompt repairs and the swift restoration of bulk power to Kebbi and its neighbouring areas, despite the significant impact of the fire incident on the substation.

Continued Efforts to Improve the Transmission Grid

TCN expressed their commitment to ongoing network expansion projects and their determination to enhance the nation’s transmission grid.

The Nigerian power transmission company further stated that efforts were still underway to connect the 132kV Birnin Kebbi – Sokoto transmission line. This connection will allow TCN to transmit additional bulk electricity to Sokoto State and its environs, further strengthening the power supply in the region.

The restoration of power supply in Birnin Kebbi is a testament to TCN’s dedication in swiftly addressing power outages and ensuring the continued improvement of the nation’s power transmission infrastructure.
