Niger Republic Junta Denies Plot to Shoot Down Tinubu’s Plane, Nigerian Embassy Confirms

The Nigerian Embassy in Niger Republic has vehemently denied recent reports suggesting that the military junta had planned to prevent President Bola Tinubu’s jet from using the country’s airspace. This information was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a tweet, Ahmad stated, “The Embassy of Nigeria in Niger Republic has categorically denied the false reports claiming that the military junta prohibited President Bola Tinubu’s jet from flying in its airspace.”

Earlier reports had indicated that the military junta redirected the presidential jet carrying Tinubu, potentially putting it at risk of being shot down while in Niger Republic’s airspace. This action by the junta is believed to be linked to Tinubu’s and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) stance against the recent coup in the country.

The military ousted former President Bazoum over allegations of mismanagement of the country’s resources.
