Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, has made a heartfelt appeal to organized labor to reconsider their planned strike in protest against the removal of fuel subsidy.
In his plea, Governor Alia asked for patience from the union, as he assured them that the government is working tirelessly to meet their demands.
The governor emphasized that his administration does not view the regular payment of pensions, gratuity, and public workers’ salaries as mere achievements. Instead, they are committed to maintaining this practice by ensuring the stability of the state’s workforce welfare package.
Furthermore, Governor Alia stated his administration’s unwavering commitment to transparent governance. Rather than resorting to propaganda and political manipulation, they believe that their achievements in office will speak for themselves.
These statements were made by Governor Alia during his address to the state on the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day celebration, which took place on Sunday.
The governor highlighted that his administration welcomes innovative ideas and constructive criticism, as they strive to eliminate corruption and nepotism. They aim to promote values of merit, equity, equality, justice, and fairness in all their dealings.
While expressing gratitude to the people of Benue State for their unwavering support in the pursuit of good governance, Governor Alia also commended the individuals who played pivotal roles in securing the country’s independence.
Furthermore, he offered prayers of gratitude to God for keeping the country united, despite past challenges that threatened its peaceful coexistence.
Additionally, Governor Alia urged Benue youths who are embarking on treks to Abuja and other cities to honor certain Nigerians to immediately halt this activity. Instead, he encouraged them to take advantage of the ICT training programs organized by the state government to prepare for a self-reliant future.
