Nasarawa State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Arrests 106 Residents for Violating Sanitation Regulations

The Nasarawa State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has taken decisive action against individuals who have flouted sanitation regulations. In a recent press briefing held on Saturday, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Yakubu Kwanta, revealed that a total of 106 residents have been apprehended across the 13 local government areas for their non-compliance.

Out of the offenders, 31 were detained in Akwanga, 21 in Lafia, 29 in Karu, 4 in Nassarawa-Eggon, 6 in Awe, 5 in Kokona, 7 in Keffi, and 3 in Obi. According to Kwanta, these individuals were engaging in private business transactions while the sanitation exercise was ongoing, in direct violation of section 9(2) of the State Environmental Sanitation Law.

Kwanta emphasized that the offenders were swiftly prosecuted by the mobile courts in their respective local government areas. This is a significant step towards promoting adherence to sanitation laws and serving as a deterrent for potential violators.

Furthermore, the commissioner expressed his satisfaction with the overall compliance demonstrated by the residents, stating that numerous shops and business premises were temporarily closed during the sanitation exercise. This level of cooperation from the public is commendable and reflects the collective responsibility towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
