The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism for a bright future for the country. In her remarks at the 63rd Independence Day Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja, Mrs. Tinubu called on Nigerians to look beyond their current realities and embrace hope.
A Call for Hope
During the thanksgiving service, which had the theme “Christ in Me, the Hope of Glory”, the First Lady emphasized that hope is not just a mere phrase but a powerful force that can shape the nation’s destiny. She urged Nigerians to draw strength from the renewed hope agenda of the Bola Tinubu-led administration.
“If we do not have hope, how do we become part of this greatness that God has started in the nation? We find through the love of Christ, a deeper message of hope, especially in the theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Christ in you, the hope of glory,'” Mrs. Tinubu stated.
Embracing Good Governance
The First Lady further emphasized that good governance can only be impactful if citizens follow the example set by Jesus Christ. She highlighted the importance of embodying the fruit of the spirit, which includes love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, and forgiveness.
Celebrating Unity in Diversity
As Nigeria marked its 63rd Independence Day Anniversary, Mrs. Tinubu called for the celebration of the unity that defines the nation’s diversity. She expressed confidence that no challenge is insurmountable if Nigerians imbibe the nature of Christ.
“There is no challenge, obstacle, or difficulty that we cannot overcome or surmount if we imbibe the nature of Christ who said in Matthew 11:28; ‘come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest with your souls,'” the First Lady affirmed.
An Appeal for Hope in God
Revd Dr Israel Akanji, President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, delivered a message on the theme ‘Christ in Me The Hope of Glory.’ He emphasized the need for citizens to put their hope in God and align themselves with the efforts of the current administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
The Service of Unity
The church service was attended by members of the National Assembly, led by Senate President Gidswill Akpabio, and members of the Federal Executive Council. In attendance were also service chiefs and members of the diplomatic corps.
