Lagos, Nigeria – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Amos Dangut as its new Head of National Office (HNO).
Dr. Dangut, who previously served as Deputy Registrar of the office of the HNO, assumes his new role following the completion of Mr. Patrick Areghan’s tenure.
In a statement issued to the press on Monday in Lagos, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, disclosed the appointment.
Mr. Patrick Areghan, who took office on March 5, 2020, officially stepped down on October 1.
Professional Journey and Achievements
Dr. Dangut’s professional journey with WAEC began in 1998 when he joined as an Assistant Registrar (AR) II. Over the years, he has steadily climbed the ranks, becoming a Deputy Registrar in April 2018.
“Dangut was commended by the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) for his transparent conduct of examinations between 2000 and 2006,” stated Mrs. Adesina.
Throughout his illustrious career at WAEC, he held various positions including Assistant Registrar/Subject Officer of Examinations Security, Deputy to the Branch Controller at the Uyo office, and Senior Assistant Registrar/Head of Examinations Security at the Bauchi office. He also served as the Branch Controller at the Yola office and the Deputy Registrar/Controller of the Post Examinations Department.
Furthermore, Dr. Dangut served as the Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator at the Ikeja Zonal Office, showcasing his vast experience and commitment to the organization.
During his 25-year tenure at WAEC, Dr. Dangut significantly contributed to the advancement of examination processes through the innovative use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), particularly in Test Development, Test Administration, and Post Test Activities.
A Scholar and Thought Leader
Apart from his administrative prowess, Dr. Dangut has made remarkable contributions to academia. He is an esteemed scholar with multiple educational publications in both international and national journals.
Moreover, he has been invited as a keynote speaker and presenter at numerous international and national conferences and fora.
Dr. Dangut is an active member of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), demonstrating his dedication to professional development and collaborative engagement within the education sector.
With Dr. Amos Dangut at the helm of WAEC’s National Office, the council is poised to continually uphold its commitment to excellence and integrity in conducting examinations across West Africa.
